Thankful Day Six - RDB

It has been a difficult twenty-four hours. The ballot issue I’ve been working on since August failed in the election yesterday, and it failed miserably. There are a lot of reasons it did, primarily the other education issue, which was a state amendment, and also lost miserably. Other factors, I believe, include Obamacare, the recent government shutdown, the impending cuts to local military bases, sequestration . . . I could go on, but the majority of the things that worked against us relate to people being scared on a financial level.

So what am I thankful for? I’m thankful that last night when I came home from watching the election results with other committee members, that Doug was waiting up for me, to talk about it. I’m thankful that this morning, he didn’t even ask me if I wanted to go work out, and hasn’t commented on the fact that it is after noon, and I’m still in my pajamas.

I’m also thankful that while I’m editing S2/B2, aka And Then You Dance, he is working on cover designs. And that while I was gone last night, he put window film on the big picture window next to my desk, so I’m not as cold when I’m writing.

It may seem as though I’m jumping around in terms of the subjects of what I’m thankful for as it relates to my husband, but it is intentional. I could walk from here to the kitchen, and notice ten things that he has done or ten things related to him that I’m thankful for.

Doug is a great man. He takes good care of his family, he’s as generous as he’s able to be. He’s patient, particularly with me. He doesn’t love when I spread myself too thin, but he quietly supports me in it anyway.

I am thankful that I met him, married him, had a family with him, and that I get to grow old with him too.
