Thankful Day Three - Readers

Today I’m thankful for something very selfish. I’m thankful for readers. I am blessed by some of the best there are. When I finish a book, even sometimes before I’m finished, I have friends eagerly standing by, waiting to read for me.

With And Then You Dance, I had three people reading before I finished the book, because there was a certain treatment I used that I was afraid would be confusing. All three gave good, honest feedback, and read quickly, which is essential, since I write quickly.

When I finished, even before I was finished editing, I had several more readers impatiently waiting for me to send out the first draft. How lucky am I? Each of them is different in the way they give feedback, how quickly they read, and how they respond. Some like to hold their comments until the end, they may even wait a day to digest what they’ve read, before they tell me. Others send me texts or emails as they’re reading. I have to admit, I love it when they do.

I almost always ask what page they’re on, so I can open the file and look for myself, see if they are feeling the way I felt, or the way I hoped they would, when they read that particular part or scene.

When I say I don’t know what I would do without them, I do know . . . I would go crazy. And I wouldn’t be able to write, because I need feedback. It is essential.

So thank you, my readers, I appreciate what you do so much.
